Chöying Khandro holds the complete transmissions of Ear-Whispered Lineages of the Mount of Bliss and the Machik Dakini from her teacher, the late His Holiness Ninth Khalkha Jetsün Dampa. Khandro-la, as her students call her, is among the few original students who have been with Khalkha Jetsün Dampa since the early 1990s. For the past twenty-five years, she has devoted her life to transmitting this rare lineage to the West.

Khandro-la has undertaken numerous personal retreats, including the traditional 108 Spring Wandering Retreat in the Mongolian wilderness. After this retreat, she received permission to start Dakini’s Whisper from the Jetsun Dampa and was presented with teaching robes by him in 2011, not long before his passing; it is not common for a laywoman to be given teaching robes in the Geluk tradition. In 2013, Khandro-la entered into a three-and-a-half-year solitary retreat, known as the “Great Retreat (nyen chen),” amidst the forests of Oregon. Her teachings are enriched by decades of rigorous study and practice, during which she has led retreats and translated Tibetan texts.

Cameron has been actively practicing Tibetan Buddhism for over seven years and holds Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Thubten Chodron, and Choying Khandro to be among his closest teachers and has been a devoted follower of the 14th Dalai Lama since a child. He has been studying under Choying Khandro through Dakini’s Whisper since 2021. Through this, he became amazed by the 9th Khalkha Jetsun Dampa, his teachings, and his story. Inspired by the teachings and guidance of Choying Khandro, Cameron decided to make a pilgrimage to Mongolia and India in 2023, to connect directly with the lineage of the 9th Khalkha Jetsun Dampa and further his research on this great master.
